Customise Your Facebook Profile With MyStuff

Personalizing Your Facebook Profile: A Guide to Customization
Many new Facebook users initially find it challenging to personalize their profiles effectively.
A key distinction between Facebook and platforms like MySpace lies in Facebook’s restrictions on extensive aesthetic alterations. While MySpace permitted a free-for-all of flashing graphics and icons, Facebook prioritizes a cleaner presentation. However, this doesn’t mean customization is impossible; it simply requires a different approach.
For those who wish to express their individuality, several methods exist to enhance their Facebook profile’s appearance.
The following techniques allow the addition of imagery and features to your profile sidebar. Although not as comprehensive as a complete visual overhaul, utilizing code snippets within the MyStuff Facebook app can create a profile that reflects your unique personality.
Utilizing Gigya MyStuff for Facebook Profile Customization
One effective method involves leveraging the MyStuff application to transform your Facebook profile by selecting desired graphics for your sidebar. If you haven’t already, install the MyStuff app from its official page.
Unlike some applications, such as Facebook Expressions, which may lose functionality over time, the MyStuff app consistently maintains its ability to add content to the profile’s left sidebar. Once installed, customization is limited only by the availability of suitable content.
To assist you, here are some resources for images and features compatible with MyStuff:
LongAgo provides a platform for creating free photo slideshows for sharing on social networks. Simply upload your photos, name the album, and then click "Get Embed Code."
Navigate to your MyStuff tab and click "Add Code."
A new code box will appear at the bottom of your MyStuff page items, where you can paste the embed code obtained from LongAgo.
After clicking "Add to profile," your slideshow will be displayed in full size on the MyStuff page and embedded within the MyStuff box on your main profile.
While the slideshow doesn't automatically advance through images on the main profile page, a link is provided for visitors to view the "Full Size" version on your MyStuff page.
Alternatively, if you prefer a single, eye-catching image, MyStuff can accommodate that as well. MintProfile is one source for images that can be embedded into Facebook.
Browse the available images, categorized by themes like birthdays, greetings, and holidays. Once you’ve found a suitable image, highlight the corresponding code, paste it into the MyStuff code box, and your new image will be displayed.
It’s worth noting that animations present on the MyStuff tab may be removed when the image is embedded on your profile page. Additionally, be mindful of the image’s width to prevent cropping (a maximum of 180 pixels is recommended). Consider using tall, narrow images for an appealing look. FanPop offers well-sized entertainment images, or explore the graphics tools listed by Aibek.
If animated images aren't to your liking, MintProfiles offers a selection of animated apps for Facebook profile customization.
You’ll discover animated lava lamps, hearts, scrolling LED letters, and more. The clocks were a personal favorite, and a blue-faced clock was added to one profile.
The animation requires a user click to activate, but upon clicking, the clock’s second hand begins to move. A limitation of the MyStuff app is its ability to display only one feature at a time, with the topmost item on the MyStuff page appearing on your profile.
Another way to enhance your Facebook profile is by adding content from external apps to the sidebar. For example, the Joe's Goals app offers a Facebook badge that can be embedded using the MyStuff box.
This can be replicated with numerous Facebook applications, such as Mafia Wars or Farmville. Go to Account, then Application Settings. For the desired app, click "Edit Settings" and select Add for "Box." Then, return to your profile, click the "Boxes" tab, scroll to the app badge, click the pencil "Edit Box," and choose "Move to Wall tab." This allows you to showcase your favorite Facebook apps directly on your main page.
If you wish to rearrange the order of images and app badges, simply click and drag them to your desired position.
While Facebook doesn’t permit the same level of customization as MySpace, it provides sufficient options to showcase your personality and interests on your profile. So, explore the possibilities and personalize your page!
