Use Twitter on Amazon Echo: A Simple Guide

Accessing Twitter Updates with Your Amazon Echo

Your Amazon Echo device offers a wide range of functionalities, and now includes the ability to receive Twitter updates via voice command. Alexa can now vocalize tweets directly from your Twitter timeline, providing a hands-free experience.

Introducing the Twitter Reader Skill

A new Alexa skill, known as Twitter Reader, facilitates this integration. This allows users to have their Amazon Echo device read tweets from their timeline, as well as direct mentions and replies. Furthermore, Alexa can deliver trending topics, even filtered by geographical location.

Installation Process

As a third-party skill, installation requires a manual process through the Alexa app on your smartphone. Refer to guides detailing Alexa skill installation for detailed steps. Simply navigate to the "Skills" section within the app's sidebar and search for "Twitter Reader".

Once located, select "Enable Skill" and then proceed to log in to your Twitter account to establish a connection.

The Twitter Reader skill responds to a variety of voice commands. Here are several examples of what you can ask Alexa:

  • "Alexa, ask Twitter what is happening." This command will prompt Alexa to read the most recent tweets from the accounts you follow.
  • "Alexa, ask Twitter for Trends." Alexa will then announce the current trending topics in your general vicinity. You can refine this request by specifying a city, such as "in Chicago".
  • "Alexa, ask Twitter for my mentions." This will read aloud your latest mentions and replies on Twitter.
  • "Alexa, ask Twitter has anyone retweeted me?" Alexa will inform you of any recent retweets of your tweets.
  • "Alexa, ask Twitter for tweets I liked." The skill will recite the tweets you have recently liked or favorited.
  • "Alexa, ask Twitter for my own tweets." Alexa can read back your own recent tweets if desired.

This provides an alternative method for keeping abreast of activity within the Twitterverse.
