Stop Facebook Name Suggestions in Photos - Privacy Guide

Facebook Facial Recognition and Tagging Control

Facebook employs facial recognition technology to analyze images uploaded by its users. When a face matching yours is detected, the platform suggests your name to the uploader. This facilitates easier tagging of you within the photograph.

If you have concerns regarding your privacy on Facebook, or generally online, you can adjust your settings to prevent these name suggestions. This offers a degree of control over how you are identified in photos posted by others.

Important Note: Altering this setting will only disable the automatic name suggestions. Friends will still retain the ability to tag you in photos; however, they will no longer receive a prompt to do so.

Adjusting Your Tagging Settings

To modify the setting that governs these tagging suggestions, begin by logging into your Facebook account. Then, click the downward-pointing arrow located on the right side of the blue navigation bar at the top of your homepage.

From the drop-down menu that appears, select “Settings.” This will redirect you to your account settings page.

It’s important to remember that this adjustment does not prevent others from posting pictures of you on Facebook or tagging you directly. It simply removes the automated suggestion that appears when the facial recognition system identifies your likeness in a photo.
