How to Hide Facebook Posts from Specific People

Managing Facebook Post Visibility

Facebook provides a convenient platform for staying connected with friends and family, and for sharing updates about your life. However, situations arise where you might wish to limit the audience for a particular post.

It is straightforward to conceal a post from specific individuals, or conversely, to display it exclusively to a chosen few. To achieve this, begin by logging into your Facebook account through a web browser and composing your post within the Status field.

Next, click the button to the left of the “Post” button – initially labeled “Friends” – and then select “More Options.”

Note: The label on the button adjacent to “Post” will dynamically change based on your current audience selection.

Accessing Custom Privacy Settings

A drop-down menu will appear, presenting you with additional choices. From this menu, select “Custom.”

This action will open the “Custom Privacy” dialog box. Within the “Don’t share this with” section, click inside the “These people or lists” field and begin typing the name of the individual from whom you wish to hide the post.

As you type, a list of matching names will be displayed. Select the desired person from this list.

The selected person’s name will now be visible within the “These people or lists” section.

Sharing Posts with Specific Individuals

Alternatively, you can choose to share a post only with designated individuals. By default, all of your Friends are included in the “These people or lists” field within the “Share this with” section.

If you intend to share the post with only a select person, click the “X” icon next to the “Friends” entry to remove it.

Then, add the desired person to the “These people or lists” field in the “Share this with” section, using the same method described previously for the “Don’t share this with” section.

Note: If you designate a specific person to view a post, it is unnecessary to specify anyone in the “Don’t share this with” section. The post will be visible only to those you’ve chosen in the “Share this with” section.

Finally, click “Save Changes” to finalize your settings and return to your post.

Verifying Post Visibility

You can verify the current visibility settings by hovering your mouse cursor over the “Custom” button. A popup window will appear, displaying the current settings for who can view the post.

Note: This button is the same one initially labeled “Friends.” Its name has been updated to reflect the custom settings you’ve applied.

Click “Post” to publish your post to the selected audience.

Adjusting Privacy Settings for Future Posts

It’s also possible to modify these settings to apply to all subsequent posts. This is useful if you wish to consistently exclude someone from viewing your content without resorting to unfriending them.

Begin by clicking the down arrow located on the right side of the top blue bar on your Facebook page. From the drop-down menu, select “Settings.”

If you were in the process of composing a post, a prompt may appear. Click “Leave This Page” to proceed to the “Settings” page. Your draft post will be saved.

On the “Settings” page, click “Privacy” in the list of options on the left-hand side.

This will display the “Privacy Settings and Tools” screen. Within the “Who can see my stuff?” section, click “Edit” to the right of “Who can see future posts?”

The section will expand, revealing further options. Hovering your mouse over the “Custom” button will display the custom selections you’ve previously made directly from a post. Click the “Custom” button to access these options.

The “Custom Privacy” dialog box will reappear, allowing you to make any desired changes. Once you’ve adjusted the settings, click “Save Changes.” These changes will be applied to all future posts.

Upon returning to the “Privacy Settings and Tools” screen, a message will confirm that the setting has been updated and is also reflected in the post settings.

Utilizing Facebook Lists

Furthermore, you can leverage Facebook Lists to share posts with specific groups of friends, offering another layer of control over your content’s visibility.
