Block Posts on Your Facebook Timeline - Without Unfriending

Maintaining Control Over Your Facebook Timeline

Facebook provides a convenient platform for staying connected with friends and family, allowing you to share updates and see what others are doing. However, instances may arise where content shared by connections on your timeline is undesirable or unwelcome.

Fortunately, resorting to unfriending individuals or abandoning your Facebook account isn’t necessary. It is possible to restrict others from posting directly to your Facebook timeline with a simple adjustment to your privacy settings.

NOTE: The setting operates as a complete restriction. You will either permit all friends to post, or prevent all friends from posting on your timeline.

Blocking Posts from Friends

To prevent friends from posting on your timeline, begin by logging into your Facebook account through a web browser. Then, click the downward-facing arrow located on the right side of the blue bar at the top of your homepage.

From the drop-down menu that appears, select “Settings.” This will take you to your account settings page.

Accessing Timeline and Tagging Settings

On the “Settings” screen, locate and click “Timeline and Tagging” within the list of options presented on the left-hand side.

Within the “Who can add things to my timeline?” section, you will find an “Edit” link to the right of the “Who can post on your timeline?” option. Click this “Edit” link.

Configuring Posting Permissions

Clicking “Edit” will expand the section, revealing a “Friends” button. Select this button to open a drop-down menu, and then choose “Only Me” from the available options.

The section can be collapsed by clicking “Close,” though this step isn’t required to save your changes.

Controlling Visibility of Posts by Others

You might prefer to not entirely block friends from posting on your timeline. Facebook also offers the ability to manage what others can see when posts are made by other users on your profile.

To adjust these settings, remain on the “Timeline and Tagging” screen, or navigate back to it as previously described. Within the “Who can see things on my timeline?” section, click “Edit” to the right of “Who can see what others post on your timeline?”

Selecting “Edit” will expand the section, displaying a button. Click this button to access a drop-down list, allowing you to choose who can view posts made by others on your timeline.

If you wish to customize visibility for specific individuals, select “Custom.” Further details regarding this option can be found in our article detailing how to show or hide Facebook posts for selected people.

Once your selection is made, you can click “Close” to collapse the section, although this is not a necessary step.

Additional Privacy Options

If you are concerned about your online presence on Facebook, consider exploring additional privacy features. These include preventing Facebook from suggesting your name in photos posted by others, selectively showing or hiding posts, and creating friend lists for targeted sharing of content.
