Discovering Trending YouTube Videos on Twitter with Zoofs

It's important to clarify that I don't possess the ability to read minds, nor am I particularly skilled at predicting lottery numbers. However, I can accurately identify YouTube videos poised to gain significant traction on Twitter within the coming days. This capability isn't based on luck, but rather on the strategic utilization of available resources.

A website known as Zoofs provides insights into the current most-discussed videos on Twitter. The creator of this platform describes its function as follows:

Navigating the Zoofs Interface

Upon visiting the homepage, you'll encounter a grid displaying 7 rows and 6 columns of video thumbnails. Each thumbnail conveniently indicates the video's duration in the lower right corner.

Selecting any thumbnail allows you to view the corresponding video. Certain thumbnails are distinguished by a star and a "Zoof's Pick" banner. These videos represent selections handpicked by the Zoofs team from among the popular content.

I clicked on a thumbnail in the upper right corner, immediately recognizing it from a recent episode of The Simpsons.

Video Playback and Statistics

A window appears, enabling video playback in either HTML5 or Flash format, ensuring compatibility with Apple devices like iPads and iPhones. Within this window, you'll find statistics detailing the video's view count on YouTube and the number of times its URL has been tweeted.

For example, the video shown had accumulated 25,346 views and been mentioned in 613 tweets.

The video is also categorized by genre; in this case, it falls under entertainment. Links are provided to easily share the Zoofs link across various social networks, including Twitter, Facebook, and Digg.

Exploring Zoofs' Picks and Recent Videos

Clicking the "Zoofs Picks" link at the top of the window displays all videos selected by the Zoofs team. This is the resulting view:

I selected the first video to assess the Zoofs team's comedic preferences. I also clicked the "Last 72 Hours" button at the top of the screen to discover the newest trending videos. This button is visible in the screenshot below:

I randomly chose a video and enjoyed an animated orange recreating the iconic "Wassssssup" sketch from 1999.

Viewing Video Statistics in List Format

I attempted to identify the most popular video on Zoofs, but couldn't locate a sorting function based on tweet count or views. However, I was able to switch to a list view that displayed both view counts and tweet numbers, as shown below:
