Threads Reply Control: Approve & Filter Replies Now Available

Threads Introduces Enhanced Conversation Controls and Filters
Meta’s Threads, positioned as a competitor to X, is experiencing continuous development with frequent feature additions. Following the recent implementation of communities and ephemeral “ghost posts,” the social media platform unveiled new functionalities on Thursday designed to grant users greater command over interactions within the application.
Reply Approvals: A New Level of Control
A key update is the introduction of reply approvals. This feature empowers users to pre-approve responses from other individuals before they become visible to the broader audience.
Currently, Threads provides options to restrict replies to specific groups – those you follow, your followers, or mentioned users. However, the new reply approval system allows for open discussions to all users while simultaneously mitigating the risk of derailment or unwanted commentary.
According to the company, these tools are intended to facilitate the “setting of the conversational tone” and provide users with increased agency. This approach uniquely balances the desire for public engagement with the poster’s authority over their own content.
Refined Activity Feed Filters
Furthermore, Meta is deploying updated Activity feed filters. These enhancements will enable users to easily prioritize replies originating from individuals they follow or those that directly mention them.
These new filters complement existing options such as Verified, Quotes, and Reposts, offering a more granular approach to managing and viewing replies.
Growth and Monetization of Threads
During its recent third-quarter earnings report, Meta revealed that Threads has achieved 150 million daily active users. This represents a significant increase from the over 100 million reported in December 2024.
The platform also boasts over 400 million monthly active users, as stated by the company in August.
Alongside user growth, Meta is actively pursuing monetization strategies. Advertising has been globally implemented, and the company is now preparing to introduce video advertisements.
Algorithmic Control Testing
Development continues on user-facing features. Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri, announced that Threads is currently testing controls allowing users to personalize their algorithmic feed. This will be achieved through the addition and removal of topics aligned with individual interests.
