Texas Attorney General Sues Roblox Over Child Safety

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton initiated legal action against the online gaming platform Roblox on Thursday evening. The lawsuit centers around concerns regarding the safety of children utilizing the platform.

Paxton’s statement alleges that Roblox knowingly prioritizes profits and individuals he termed “pixel pedophiles” over the well-being of young users. He asserts that the platform has evolved into a haven for potential predators.

Allegations Against Roblox

“Platforms such as Roblox cannot be permitted to function as virtual spaces where predators can exploit children,” Paxton declared. “Roblox is obligated to enhance its protections for children against individuals with harmful intentions concealed behind digital interfaces. Any entity facilitating child exploitation will encounter the full extent of legal repercussions.”

This legal challenge mirrors similar actions undertaken by Attorneys General in Louisiana and Kentucky. Furthermore, multiple lawsuits are pending in California, Texas, and Pennsylvania, all targeting Roblox.

The core of these cases revolves around accusations that Roblox has failed to implement sufficient child safety protocols. This alleged negligence has reportedly exposed minors to risks including grooming, inappropriate content, and abusive interactions.

Growing Regulatory Scrutiny

Globally, governments are responding to these concerns with stricter regulations. These laws aim to verify the ages of social media users, such as the U.K.’s Online Safety Act and a recently enacted age-assurance law in Mississippi.

Several other U.S. states – Arizona, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Virginia – are currently evaluating similar legislative measures.

Roblox’s Response and Safety Measures

Roblox has implemented several new safety features in response to mounting pressure. These include:

  • An age-estimation system utilizing selfie analysis.
  • Standardized content and maturity labels.
  • An AI-powered system for detecting potential child endangerment.
  • Enhanced safeguards specifically for teenage users.
  • Expanded content controls.

The company also provides parental controls, communication restrictions, and technology designed to identify and address rule violations.

As of September 30, 2025, Roblox reported 151.5 million daily active users.

Roblox’s Statement on the Lawsuit

Roblox maintains that it has established “industry-leading protocols” to safeguard users and combat malicious activity. The company expressed its disappointment with the lawsuit.

“We are disappointed that the Attorney General has chosen to pursue legal action based on inaccurate information and exaggerated claims, rather than collaborating with Roblox to address this widespread industry challenge and develop effective solutions,” a company spokesperson stated.

“Roblox is fundamentally dedicated to child safety. Our policies are intentionally more stringent than those found on many comparable platforms. We prohibit the sharing of images and videos within chats, employ filters to prevent the exchange of personal information, and our dedicated teams and automated systems continuously monitor communications to identify and remove harmful content,” the spokesperson added.

Note: This report has been updated to include a statement from Roblox.
