These new features, revealed on Tuesday, permit users to acquire digital items for games directly inside Discord, removing the necessity to navigate away from the platform. Users are also able to compile lists of desired game items and send in-game content as presents via direct messaging.

Should Discord transition to a publicly traded company, it will be subject to increased financial oversight, making these additions a valuable new avenue for monetization for both Discord itself and the developers it hosts. By allowing developers to market and sell digital products directly on Discord, the platform expands their potential reach beyond their existing player base, which could lead to increased earnings.

The first implementation of these features is being done in collaboration with the well-known video game Marvel Rivals, which now features a dedicated storefront within its official Discord server.

Gamers can now explore and purchase in-game items directly from the Marvel Rivals server, including options like packages, outfits, emotes, and emojis.

Furthermore, users have the option to create wishlists that their friends can access and fulfill as gifts. This functionality is especially useful with the holiday season approaching, streamlining the process of buying gifts for friends and family who enjoy gaming. The ability to send in-game gifts through direct messages also allows users to share presents with friends regardless of whether they play Marvel Rivals.

Currently, the shop supports transactions in U.S. dollars and is accessible solely through the desktop application for players located in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Oceania. The company is evaluating the possibility of expanding support to additional regions in the future.
