Last year, a significant announcement was made by Wizards of the Coast and Resolution Games: the beloved tabletop role-playing game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), would be receiving a virtual reality adaptation.

Specifics regarding this new game were initially withheld. However, on Wednesday, the companies formally revealed the title and additional information, moving players closer to a VR D&D experience.

Introducing Battlemarked

The forthcoming game, named Battlemarked, builds upon Resolution Games’ Demeo system. This system centers around a virtual tabletop and incorporates gameplay mechanics reminiscent of D&D, featuring turn-based combat.

Demeo also utilizes an action point system managed through playing cards. Battlemarked represents the inaugural collaboration between Resolution Games and Wizards of the Coast, suggesting a closer alignment with the authentic D&D feel than Demeo offers.

Gameplay Focus and Key Differences

Unlike traditional D&D sessions, Battlemarked will not necessitate a Dungeon Master (DM). Resolution Games aims to prioritize strategic thinking and informed decision-making over extensive roleplaying.

At its initial release, Battlemarked will feature two narrative-driven campaigns designed for up to four players.

Platform Availability

The game is slated for release across multiple platforms, including VR, PC, and console. While a comprehensive list of compatible devices hasn't been disclosed, Demeo is currently available on Meta Quest, Pico, SteamVR, PlayStation VR2, PlayStation 5, PC, Mac, and iPad.

It is anticipated that Battlemarked will share similar platform support.

A Glimpse into the Game

Accompanying the announcement was a new trailer. This trailer showcased the familiar art style from Wizards of the Coast and previewed some of the playable classes and races.

Players can anticipate characters like a fighter Dragonborn and a rogue Tiefling, among others.

Several details surrounding the new title remain unknown, including the launch date and pricing structure. Information regarding the campaign content is also currently unavailable.
