Nvidia Launches RTX Blackwell GPU Family at CES 2025

As predicted, Nvidia initiated its CES 2025 presentation on Monday with the introduction of the new RTX Blackwell series of graphics processing units (GPUs). The flagship of this lineup is the RTX 5090.

While maintaining a similar physical design to its predecessor, the RTX 5090 now incorporates 92 billion transistors. It also boasts performance metrics of 4,000 AT TOPS, 380 ray-tracing TFLOPS, and a memory bandwidth of 1.8 TB/s.

Impressive Demonstrations and Performance Gains

During the keynote event, the 5090 showcased remarkably detailed real-time demonstrations. These featured intricate textures and comprehensive ray tracing capabilities.

Nvidia asserts that this new high-end GPU is capable of delivering performance improvements of up to 2x compared to the 4090.

Pricing and Availability

The RTX 5090 is priced at $2,000. Other models in the series – the RTX 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070 – will retail for $999, $749, and $549, respectively.

Notably, laptops equipped with the 5070 will be available at price points significantly lower than the standalone 5090.

AI-Driven Rendering Advancements

According to the company, the 50 series introduces significant advancements in AI-powered rendering. These include neural shaders, technologies for digital humans, and improvements in geometry and lighting.

Laptops integrating the top-tier Blackwell GPU will be available for purchase starting at just under $3,000.

Laptop Availability and Partnerships

Notebooks featuring the 5090, 5080, and 5070 Ti GPUs will begin shipping in March. The RTX 5070-equipped laptops will follow in April.

Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, and Razer are among the manufacturers that have designed laptops utilizing these new GPUs.

Addressing Supply Chain Concerns

CEO Jensen Huang emphasized that Nvidia is proactively managing manufacturing to avoid the supply chain issues and heightened demand driven by AI that have impacted previous releases.

A New Era of Graphics

“Blackwell, the engine of AI, has arrived for PC gamers, developers and creatives,” Huang stated. “By merging AI-driven neural rendering with ray tracing, Blackwell represents the most substantial innovation in computer graphics since the introduction of programmable shading 25 years ago.”

Huang also highlighted the reciprocal relationship between GeForce and AI, noting, “We utilized GeForce to enable AI, and now AI is fundamentally transforming GeForce.”
