Vietcetera Secures $2.7 Million to Expand Audience Reach
Vietcetera, a digital media network headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, is set to expand its audience base. This expansion follows a successful pre-Series A funding round totaling $2.7 million.
Funding Details and Investors
The capital infusion occurred across two investment rounds throughout the current year. North Base Media, a venture firm specializing in media investments, spearheaded the funding efforts.
A diverse group of investors also participated in the round. These include Go-Ventures, the venture arm of Gojek; East Ventures; Summit Media; Genesia Ventures; Hustle Fund; and Z Venture Capital, which is backed by SoftBank Group and Naver Corporation.
Company Overview and Growth
Founded in 2016 by Hao Tran and Guy Truong, Vietcetera has rapidly grown its reach. The network currently boasts a monthly audience of 20 million users.
Vietcetera’s advertising partners include prominent brands such as AIA Life Insurance, Google, Facebook, Nestlé, MasterCard, Vingroup, and Tiki.
Monetization Strategy
According to Hao Tran, Vietcetera intends to diversify its revenue streams. A key component of this strategy involves prioritizing the licensing and development of original content.
Expanding Content Offerings
Initially focused on millennials and Gen Z, Vietcetera aimed to provide content distinct from typical showbiz reporting and sensationalism. To broaden its appeal, the network will introduce new vertical brands in 2022.
These new brands will concentrate on content tailored to women, the real estate market, and personal finance.
About North Base Media
North Base Media was established in 2013 by Marcus Brauchli, a former editor of the Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, and Saša Vučinič, CEO of the Media Development Loan Fund.
The firm focuses on supporting digital media startups in emerging markets experiencing growth in mobile internet usage. Their portfolio also includes The News Lens, Atlas Obscura, Rappler, and Majarra.
Use of Funds
Vietcetera will allocate the new funding to several key areas. These include the creation of new content, such as shows and podcasts, as well as mobile app development.
Further investment will be directed towards franchise and content licensing opportunities, and the potential for strategic acquisitions.
