Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Delayed Due to Tariffs

Nintendo Postpones Switch 2 Preorders Amidst Tariff Concerns
Nintendo has announced a delay in the commencement of preorders for the recently unveiled Switch 2 within the United States.
This decision stems from apprehensions regarding potential tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump and the resulting impact on market dynamics.
Preorder Delay Details
Originally slated to begin on April 9, 2025, preorders have been put on hold to allow for a thorough evaluation of the possible effects of these tariffs and the broader economic landscape.
A company spokesperson communicated to TechCrunch that Nintendo will provide an update regarding the revised preorder schedule at a future time.
Despite the preorder postponement, the planned launch date of June 5, 2025, remains firm.
Pricing and Availability
Nintendo continues to intend to release the Switch 2 on June 5th with a retail price of $450.
Consumers will have the option of purchasing the console as a standalone unit.
Alternatively, a bundle including Mario Kart World, a new title specifically designed for the Switch 2, will also be available.
Context of the Delay
The unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2 occurred on Tuesday, marking the company’s first new console introduction since the original Nintendo Switch debuted in 2017.
This announcement coincided with Donald Trump’s declaration of extensive tariffs.
These tariffs, projected to significantly affect the technology sector, are set at approximately 30% for both China and Taiwan.
Such measures are anticipated to cause disruptions to established trade patterns within the global technology market.
