ZipCharge Go: Portable EV Power Bank - Charge Your Electric Vehicle On-the-Go

ZipCharge Introduces Portable EV Powerbank to Alleviate Range Concerns
ZipCharge, a British startup, has unveiled a novel charging solution for electric vehicles (EVs) designed to address the pervasive issue of range anxiety. This innovation aims to encourage a transition away from gasoline-powered cars. The company debuted the ZipCharge Go, a portable powerbank specifically for EVs, during the Cop26 climate summit.
ZipCharge Go: Design and Portability
The ZipCharge Go is comparable in size to a standard suitcase and has a weight of approximately 50 pounds. Its integrated wheels and retractable handle facilitate easy transport, allowing users to store it in their vehicle's trunk and deploy it as needed for charging.
Charging Capabilities and Compatibility
ZipCharge states that the Go can deliver up to 20 miles of additional range when connected to an EV for a duration of 30 minutes. A version with increased capacity is also planned, capable of providing up to 40 miles of range.
The device is compatible with all plug-in hybrid and fully electric vehicles equipped with a Type 2 socket. A full charge, utilizing the ZipCharge Go, is estimated to take between 30 minutes and one hour.
Convenient Control and Charging
Recharging the ZipCharge Go itself is straightforward, requiring only a standard electrical outlet. An accompanying mobile application enables users to remotely monitor and manage the device.
Through the app, users can also schedule charging sessions to coincide with off-peak electricity rates, potentially reducing charging costs.
Availability and Pricing
Currently, the ZipCharge Go is not yet available for purchase. InsideEVs reports that the company intends to release both 4 kWh and 8 kWh models, with deliveries anticipated to commence in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Leasing options will begin at a minimum of £49 (approximately US$67) per month. Direct purchase will also be offered to EV owners and businesses, such as hotels, lacking on-site charging infrastructure.
While the final retail price remains undisclosed, The Sunday Times Driving section suggests ZipCharge is targeting a price point similar to that of a 7.2kW home charging port installation.
