YouTube Layoffs: Voluntary Exit Program for US Staff Announced

YouTube Announces Voluntary Exit Program and Reorganization
YouTube has initiated a “voluntary exit program” offering severance packages to its U.S.-based workforce, as confirmed by the company to TechCrunch on Wednesday.
Initial reports regarding this program surfaced earlier from Sources.
Internal Communication from Neal Mohan
Neal Mohan, the CEO of YouTube, communicated details of the program to employees through an internal memorandum distributed on Wednesday.
Restructuring of Product Teams
Alongside the voluntary exit program, YouTube is undergoing a restructuring of its product divisions.
These teams will now operate as three distinct organizations, each reporting directly to Mohan.
New Organizational Structure
- The “Subscription Products” team will concentrate on YouTube’s subscription services, encompassing YouTube Music & Premium, as well as over-the-top (OTT) offerings.
- The “Viewer Products” team will be dedicated to enhancing the viewing experience across the core YouTube application, YouTube Kids, Learning platforms, and areas like Trust & Safety.
- The “Creator & Community Products” organization will prioritize creator support and community development.
YouTube has stated that these organizational shifts will not result in any role eliminations.
Financial Performance and Context
This announcement coincides with the release of Alphabet’s third-quarter earnings on Wednesday.
YouTube’s advertising revenue for the quarter reached $10.26 billion, representing a 15% increase compared to the same period last year.
