Shure Expands the MV7 Microphone Line with the New MV7i

Initially released in 2022, the MV7 quickly established itself as a leading microphone choice for podcasters. Shure subsequently enhanced the series last April with the MV7+, incorporating a USB-C connection and refined features for improved audio clarity.

At CES 2025, Shure unveiled another addition to this popular line. The MV7i is designated as a “smart” microphone by Shure. This designation primarily highlights its capability to connect a second microphone directly via the XLR port, complete with phantom power support.

Enhanced Control with Motiv Mix

Upon connecting a second microphone, producers gain simultaneous control over both channels through the Motiv Mix desktop application. This represents a significant expansion of the microphone’s functionality.

The original MV7 was groundbreaking in its delivery of professional Shure audio quality directly to desktop podcasting setups.

The inclusion of a second microphone input facilitates the return of in-person conversations, a format many podcasters transitioned away from around 2020. Shure is marketing the MV7i as an accessible option for newcomers, with a greater emphasis on its software capabilities.

According to Shure’s Eduardo Valdes, “Creators no longer require a separate audio interface. The MV7i consolidates everything into a single, space-efficient package, catering to users of all audio expertise levels.” He further emphasizes that the MOTIV Mix software simplifies microphone control.

Software Features and Recording Options

The integrated interface provides several useful features, including automatic level adjustment, noise reduction, a pop filter, and customizable reverb. The Motiv Mix application offers diverse recording modes.

These modes include the ability to combine both microphones into a single mix, as well as options for multi-track mono and stereo audio recording.
