Xiaomi Smart Glasses: Official Launch & Details

Xiaomi Enters Smart Glasses Market, Taking on Facebook
Xiaomi is now directly competing with Facebook in the burgeoning smart glasses sector with the introduction of its innovative new device.
This wearable technology isn't limited to simply capturing images; it boasts the ability to present messages and notifications, facilitate phone calls, offer navigational guidance, and even perform real-time text translation directly within the user’s field of vision.
Similar to Facebook’s approach, Xiaomi has prioritized a lightweight design for its glasses, despite the inclusion of numerous features.
However, at a weight of 51 grams, the Xiaomi glasses are slightly heavier than Facebook’s Ray-Ban Stories.
A dedicated indicator light is incorporated to clearly signal when the integrated 5-megapixel camera is actively recording.
Technical Specifications and Capabilities
The Xiaomi Smart Glasses are powered by a quad-core ARM processor and operate on the Android operating system.
They utilize MicroLED imaging technology, which is recognized for its superior brightness and extended lifespan compared to OLED displays.
The company highlights that this technology’s simplified structure allowed for the creation of a remarkably compact display, featuring individual pixels measuring just 4μm.
Currently, image viewing is limited to monochrome; Xiaomi explains this decision was made to maximize light transmission through the complex optical components.
Beyond a Second Screen
Xiaomi emphasizes that its smart glasses are designed to function independently, rather than merely mirroring a smartphone’s display.
The device intelligently filters and presents only the most crucial notifications, such as alerts from smart home systems and messages from designated contacts.
Integrated navigation features project maps and turn-by-turn directions directly onto the lenses.
Incoming caller ID is also displayed, and calls can be answered using the glasses’ built-in microphone and speakers.
Real-Time Translation Features
The integrated microphone can capture spoken language, which is then processed by Xiaomi’s proprietary translation algorithm for real-time conversion.
This translation capability extends to written text and text within images captured by the device’s camera.
As of now, Xiaomi has not revealed the pricing or official launch date for these smart glasses, but updates will be provided as they become available.
