X Expands Video Capabilities with 4K Uploads
X is currently extending the ability to upload videos in 4K resolution to a limited group of content creators. This move is strategically designed to enhance user engagement and discourage migration to competing platforms like YouTube or Vimeo for video viewing.
Availability and Current Limits
According to a recent announcement from X’s engineering team, the 4K upload feature will soon be accessible to all premium subscribers. Previously, paid subscribers were restricted to uploading videos in 1080p resolution, with a maximum file size of 8GB and a duration of approximately three hours.
The introduction of 4K support may prompt adjustments to the existing file size limitations for subscribers on the platform.
Strategic Push for Video Content
Since its acquisition by Elon Musk, X has been actively encouraging users to share more video content. This has been achieved through a series of gradual increases to the upload limits available to subscribers.
The platform’s efforts to attract video creators are evident in the recent launch of a specialized feed dedicated to vertical videos.
Capitalizing on TikTok Uncertainty
Earlier this year, X implemented a dedicated feed for vertical video content, complete with a convenient shortcut on the home screen of its mobile applications. This initiative was undertaken to leverage the potential opportunities arising from the ongoing debate surrounding a possible ban of TikTok in the United States.
- 4K Resolution: Select creators now have access.
- Premium Subscribers: Full rollout is planned.
- Previous Limit: 1080p, 8GB, 3 hours.
