X Launches Dedicated Vertical Video Feed

X Launches Dedicated Video Feed Amid TikTok Uncertainty
Social network X is actively seeking to leverage the current ambiguity surrounding applications developed by ByteDance, such as TikTok and Lemon8, through the introduction of a specialized vertical video feed.
The platform is integrating a new video tab into the app's bottom navigation bar for users located in the United States. This allows for swift and direct access to video content hosted on X.
New Video Tab Rollout
“A completely immersive new space for videos is being deployed to users within the U.S. starting today,” the company communicated in a statement released on Sunday.
While existing users of TikTok and other ByteDance applications retain the ability to utilize these apps within the U.S., they are currently unavailable for download through major app stores.
This situation prevents both new users from accessing the apps and current users from receiving updates. Consequently, a competitive rush has begun among alternative social media platforms to introduce new functionalities or launch entirely new applications in an attempt to attract users.
Potential for Shifting Landscape
However, this opportunity may prove temporary. It is widely anticipated that former President Trump will issue an executive order that could potentially supersede the ban previously upheld by the Supreme Court.
X users have previously been able to view short-form videos by interacting with a video on their timeline and then scrolling upwards.
This new tab simply provides a designated area specifically for these video experiences.
Previous Video Initiatives
It’s important to note that this isn’t X’s initial foray into dedicated video spaces. A media tab designed for videos was previously previewed by an app reverse engineer.
This marks the first official announcement from X regarding the implementation of this feature.
Focus on Video Content
The social network has demonstrated an increasing emphasis on video-based experiences in recent times. Last year, a dedicated TV application was launched to showcase videos originating from various organizations and content creators.
Given the challenges currently faced by TikTok in the U.S. market, other social platforms are positioning themselves to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding ByteDance’s applications within the region.
