Wrangle Secures $2 Million in Pre-Seed Funding

A new round of funding totaling $2 million has been successfully raised by Wrangle, exceeding the initial target in a pre-seed investment. The capital will be utilized to further develop the company’s technology, which focuses on automating workflows, approvals, and ticketing systems.

This investment round was co-led by Bloomberg Beta and Eniac Ventures, with additional participation from Liquid 2 Ventures, Hustle Fund, TDF Ventures, and a group of over 20 angel investors who are also founders themselves.

Founders and Company Origins

Wrangle was established in 2020 by Adam Smith and Adam Long, who had previously self-funded the company’s operations. This marks the third venture the pair have collaborated on.

Prior to founding Wrangle, Smith served as COO and Long as CTO at Automated Insights, a company later acquired by Vista Equity Partners.

Their experiences building a startup highlighted the increasing need for software solutions tailored to the evolving landscape of remote work.

Addressing the Challenges of Remote Collaboration

“When teams are co-located, operational tasks are streamlined,” explained Adam Smith. “However, rapid growth and the emergence of distinct departments necessitate a structured process for managing handoffs between teams.”

The complexities are amplified by geographically dispersed teams operating across different time zones and with varying objectives. The shift to remote work, accelerated by the global pandemic, further exacerbated these challenges.

Research indicated that Slack direct messages and channels were becoming overwhelmed with a high volume of requests – often exceeding 100 per week – with limited mechanisms for tracking progress or auditing completion.

Wrangle’s Solution: Workflow Automation within Communication Platforms

Wrangle offers a solution by enabling companies to manage operations directly within the communication tools their employees already use, such as Slack and Microsoft Teams.

The company’s no-code software automates a wide range of processes, including employee onboarding, contract approvals, and help ticket management.

It streamlines request gathering through forms, assigns tasks with automated notifications, and provides transparent progress tracking for all stakeholders.

According to Long, when a task is assigned – for example, employee onboarding – an automated checklist is presented, guiding employees through each step and eliminating uncertainty.

Wrangle was initially launched in February 2021, focusing on Slack integration. Since then, over 800 organizations have utilized the platform to complete more than 10,000 workflows.

Reuben Doetsch, co-founder and CTO of AvantStay, has been a key customer, initially implementing Wrangle for bug reports and feature requests.

“Wrangle is instrumental in maintaining workflow efficiency within Slack as AvantStay experiences rapid growth,” Doetsch stated. “It supports processes ranging from refund processing to property listing updates, saving us hundreds of hours monthly and preventing critical information from being overlooked.”

Future Plans and Investor Confidence

The newly acquired funding will facilitate team expansion beyond the two founders, accelerate product development, and bolster marketing initiatives.

Wrangle is extending its capabilities to Microsoft Teams and will soon introduce a web application for workflow creation and performance analysis.

The company currently serves dozens of paying customers and is experiencing monthly revenue growth of 20% to 30%.

Karin Klein, founding partner at Bloomberg Beta, emphasized her firm’s focus on the future of work and enhancing work experiences.

She noted that Wrangle’s approach allows ticketing workflows to occur seamlessly within existing communication platforms, avoiding the fragmentation caused by separate applications.

“Adam and Adam have developed a user-friendly ticketing solution that eliminates the need to switch between multiple applications, saving time and ensuring crucial approvals are not missed,” Klein added. “The demand for Wrangle will only increase as hybrid and distributed work models become more prevalent.”
