Wonder Woman 1984 Streaming Date: HBO Max & Theaters

Despite the ongoing increase in COVID-19 cases both within the United States and globally, Warner Bros. remains committed to releasing “Wonder Woman 1984” on Christmas Day, though their distribution strategy has expanded beyond a traditional cinema showing.
Both the film’s director, Patty Jenkins, and lead actress, Gal Gadot, shared announcements via Twitter yesterday, stating that the movie will premiere concurrently in U.S. theaters and on WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming platform.
“THE MOMENT IS HERE,” Jenkins stated. “There arrives a point where prioritizing the sharing of affection and positivity becomes paramount. We hold a deep affection for our film and for our audience, and we sincerely hope it provides a measure of happiness and relaxation to everyone during this holiday period.”
According to a statement released by HBO Max, further specifics are as follows: The film will first become available in international cinemas on December 16th, followed by its simultaneous debut in U.S. theaters and on HBO Max on December 25th. Subscribers to the streaming service in the U.S. will have access to the film for a period of one month without any extra fees.
The pandemic has led some films to transition from theatrical releases to streaming platforms, however, most studios have opted to postpone their major releases. The “Wonder Woman” sequel – which had already experienced several date adjustments as part of standard film industry practice – was initially slated for a June release when the pandemic began, with Warner Bros. subsequently moving the date to August, and then again to Christmas.
The underwhelming box office results of Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” last month – which Warner Bros. released exclusively in theaters – led studios to postpone other highly anticipated films such as “Dune,” “No Time To Die,” and “The Batman.” However, indefinite delays may not be feasible, and in WarnerMedia’s case, this also appears to be a strategic move to boost subscriptions to HBO Max following its initial launch challenges.
Disney, on the other hand, chose to release its live-action adaptation of “Mulan” on Disney+ with an additional $29.99 charge, while also maintaining a theatrical release in select markets. They will also be making Pixar’s “Soul” available on Christmas Day through streaming at no extra cost to subscribers.
