WhatsApp to Enable Multi-Device Support and Enhance Disappearing Messages

WhatsApp is preparing to allow users to access the messaging platform on several devices at the same time, according to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Multi-Device Access Coming Soon

The widely-used instant messaging application, boasting over 2 billion users globally, is also set to introduce expanded functionalities for its disappearing messages feature, as detailed by key executives.

Zuckerberg verified to WaBetaInfo that support for multiple devices is imminent. WhatsApp head Will Cathcart elaborated that users will have the capability to link up to four separate devices to a single account.

Furthermore, the company is actively developing a standalone WhatsApp application specifically designed for the iPad.

Overcoming Technical Challenges

“A significant technical hurdle involved ensuring seamless synchronization of all messages and content across devices, even in scenarios where a user’s phone loses power,” Zuckerberg explained. “This issue has now been resolved, and we anticipate a swift rollout.”

Expanding Disappearing Message Options

Last year, WhatsApp introduced a seven-day self-destruct timer for messages via its disappearing mode. Now, the platform intends to broaden this capability.

Users will soon be able to share photos and videos that can only be viewed a single time. Zuckerberg stated, “We are on the verge of launching ‘view once,’ enabling users to send content that vanishes after being viewed.”

Enhanced Privacy Controls

WhatsApp users will also gain the option to activate disappearing mode as the default setting for all future conversations.

Beta Release Timeline

Zuckerberg and Cathcart confirmed to the news source that these new features will be available to users participating in the public beta program within the next one to two months.
