The upcoming Samsung Unpacked event is poised to showcase foldable devices, with expectations centering around two new models. Event invitations strongly suggest the arrival of the new Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, depicted through geometrical representations.

The Galaxy Note's Future

A significant announcement preceding the event confirmed the absence of a new Galaxy Note device in 2021. This marks a departure from the device’s established annual release schedule.

Samsung has indicated a shift in strategy, aiming to integrate Note features, including the S Pen, across its broader Galaxy ecosystem. Further details regarding the future portfolio will be revealed at a later date.

Global supply chain challenges may have contributed to this decision, alongside the increasing overlap in functionality between the Note and other Galaxy devices.

Foldable Flagships and the S Pen

Samsung’s official event materials hint at a forthcoming “flagship” device. With the Note sidelined and a Galaxy S refresh still months away, this likely refers to the Galaxy Fold assuming the flagship title.

At least one of the new foldable phones will offer compatibility with the S Pen, specifically designed for foldable displays. The new Galaxy Z Flip is also promised to feature a more durable build and refined aesthetics.

Leaks have already provided extensive previews of both the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3, a common occurrence with Samsung product launches.

Pricing and Specifications

Reported European pricing suggests a decrease in cost compared to previous generations, with the Fold starting at €1,899 and the Flip at €1,099. This aligns with Samsung’s strategy of lowering prices as foldable technology matures.

Leaked specifications include a 7.6/6.7-inch internal display for the Fold/Flip, a Snapdragon 888 processor for both, and 12MP triple/dual camera systems, respectively. Water resistance is also rumored to be included.

New Wearables on the Horizon

The event is also expected to unveil new wearable devices, stemming from the collaboration between Samsung and Google. This partnership aims to enhance the user experience and developer capabilities for both Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen.

Google SVP Sameer Samat highlighted the potential for improved battery life, faster performance, and a wider range of apps on the new Galaxy Watch.

Samsung previously showcased One UI Watch, a wearable version of its streamlined OS interface.

Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Buds 2

Leaks indicate the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic will be available in multiple sizes, addressing a common criticism of previous Samsung watches. European pricing is reportedly set to start at €279 and €379, respectively.

The Galaxy Buds 2 are expected to feature active noise canceling, representing an upgrade to the company’s entry-level earbuds.
