InVideo Raises $15 Million for Video Creation Platform

InVideo, a startup headquartered in Mumbai specializing in video creation and editing software, has secured $15 million in funding as it aims to expand its user base and clientele globally.

The company provides a web-based editing tool available on a freemium model, enabling users to produce videos suitable for prominent social media networks like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. Since its introduction, the platform has attracted over 800,000 users who have generated videos in more than 75 different languages.

InVideo has also secured partnerships with several well-known organizations, including Reuters, AT&T, Dropbox, and P&G, as Sanket Shah, co-founder and CEO of InVideo, shared with TechCrunch in a recent interview. Certain clients are utilizing the InVideo platform under a white-label arrangement for their own customers.

The $15 million Series A funding round was spearheaded by Sequoia Capital India, with participation from Tiger Global, Hummingbird, RTP Global, and Base.

Prateek Sharma, VP at Sequoia Capital India, commented that InVideo represents a growing trend of Indian startups developing SaaS platforms with global reach. He stated, “InVideo’s impressive product, design, and technical skills position it strongly to become the leading platform for video creation within a market potentially valued at $10 billion.”

In contrast to many SaaS startups originating in India, InVideo is not currently maximizing its platform’s revenue potential. The InVideo application offers a comprehensive set of features without cost, and charges a monthly fee of $10 for premium users, such as marketing firms.

Shah noted that the company could potentially charge its business clients a higher rate, but expressed a preference for expanding the user base before focusing on increased monetization. He also believes that the InVideo platform should remain affordable. (Shah indicated that services like Notion, which provide a wide range of features at no charge, have influenced his approach to developing InVideo.)

As a result, InVideo intends to eliminate a key restriction for free users: the visible watermark on their videos.

Currently, InVideo is accessible solely through web browsers, where the company’s technology infrastructure allows users to upload, edit, and process videos, according to Shah. (Upon completion of processing, users are provided with a single-click option to share their videos on social media platforms.) However, the company anticipates launching mobile applications by early next year.

Beyond this, InVideo is developing several additional features, including collaborative editing capabilities, and the new funding will help expedite these developments. The startup, which also maintains teams in the U.S. and other countries, also plans to increase its workforce.
