Vay Driverless Car Sharing Expands in Las Vegas

Vay Expands Driverless Car-Sharing in Las Vegas
Vay is accelerating the deployment of its driverless car-sharing service within the city of Las Vegas.
The company, headquartered in Berlin, utilizes teleoperations – a system enabling remote human control of vehicles – to deliver cars to customers. A limited commercial fleet of modified Kia e-Niro vehicles has been operational in designated areas of Las Vegas since January 2024.
How the Service Works
When a customer requests a vehicle through the Vay application, a car arrives without an onboard driver.
The customer then enters the vehicle and assumes manual control for their journey. Upon reaching their destination, the customer completes their trip, and a remote operator then guides the vehicle back to its next pickup location.
Expansion Plans and Investment
During CES 2025, Vay announced a significant expansion of its Las Vegas operations.
The company intends to grow its fleet to encompass 100 vehicles. This growth is supported by a recent €34 million investment secured from the European Investment Bank.
Production Facility Secured
To accommodate the increasing demand, Vay has also secured a dedicated production facility.
This facility will be instrumental in expanding the company’s fleet of Kia e-Niro vehicles.
CEO Statement
Thomas Von der Ohe, co-founder and CEO of Vay, stated that this investment signifies a pivotal moment for the company’s development.
He emphasized its importance in scaling Vay’s service offerings.
Current Usage Statistics
To date, Vay users have completed over 6,000 trips within central Las Vegas.
This demonstrates growing adoption of the innovative service.
Expansion into B2B Operations
Last year, Vay announced its intention to extend its services into the business-to-business (B2B) sector.
The company aims to provide remote driving capabilities for a variety of vehicles, including private cars, trucks, and autonomous vehicles.
Hiring for B2B Growth
Vay announced on Wednesday that it is actively recruiting remote drivers for cars and trucks.
This hiring initiative supports the anticipated expansion of its B2B operations throughout the current year. The specific vehicles to be utilized for the commercial B2B service have not yet been disclosed.
