Vantage Raises $4M to Simplify AWS Cost Management

Vantage Secures $4 Million Seed Funding to Optimize AWS Costs
Vantage, a company specializing in AWS cost analysis and reduction for businesses, has announced the successful completion of a $4 million seed funding round. The investment was spearheaded by Andreessen Horowitz, with significant participation from a group of angel investors.
Initial Focus and Pivotal Discovery
Initially, Vantage aimed to enhance the usability of the AWS console and provide clarity on cloud infrastructure spending. However, according to Ben Schaechter, co-founder and CEO, the cost transparency features resonated most strongly with users.
“Our initial marketing positioned us as an improved AWS console emphasizing both developer experience and cost visibility,” Schaechter explained. “Notably, even during early access, over 95% of customer feedback centered on the cost-related functionalities within Vantage.”

Responding to this feedback, Vantage strategically prioritized and promoted its cost transparency features, while retaining the existing AWS Console tools. Schaechter attributes the limited adoption of the console tools to the increasing prevalence of infrastructure-as-code for automated provisioning.
“A consistent challenge for organizations is unexpectedly high AWS bills occurring multiple times annually,” he stated. “Vantage addresses this by delivering enhanced transparency in understanding these costs.”
Enhanced Features and Future Expansion
In recent months, the company has expanded its cost transparency tools with machine learning-driven predictions at both the account and service levels. Furthermore, the platform now supports cross-team report sharing.

Expanding the Scope of Cloud Cost Visibility
“While AWS, GCP, and Azure often represent the largest cloud expenditures, significant costs also arise from services like Datadog, Cloudflare, and Sumo Logic,” Schaechter noted. “Currently, there’s a lack of consolidated visibility into profit and loss or return on investment from a cloud usage perspective. Vantage aims to become the central platform for viewing all cloud costs in a unified manner.”
Competitive Landscape and Vantage’s Advantage
Despite competition from established enterprise tools like Apptio’s Cloudability and VMware’s CloudHealth, Schaechter remains confident. He believes Vantage’s modern, self-service approach provides a distinct advantage.
“Vantage offers rapid deployment with just a few clicks, eliminating the need for sales interactions,” he said. “We serve a broad range of customers, from startups to large enterprises, while Cloudability and CloudHealth are, in our view, older, more traditional enterprise solutions. Startups are not currently adopting those platforms.”
Team Growth and Pricing Structure
Previously bootstrapped by Schaechter and co-founder/CTO Brooke McKim, Vantage will utilize the new funding to expand its team across both development and go-to-market functions. The company is currently actively recruiting.
Vantage provides a free starter plan for businesses tracking up to $2,500 in monthly AWS costs. Paid plans begin at $30 per month for organizations requiring tracking of larger accounts.
