Lumen Networks Cleared of Chinese Salt Typhoon Hackers

Lumen Confirms Removal of Salt Typhoon Hackers
Lumen, identified as one of a minimum of nine U.S. telecommunication companies impacted by the Salt Typhoon hacking group, has announced the attackers are no longer present within its network infrastructure.
According to a statement provided to TechCrunch by Lumen’s spokesperson, Mark Molzen, a thorough forensic investigation independently verified the successful removal of the Chinese-affiliated actors.
Importantly, the analysis revealed “no evidence that customer data was accessed” throughout the duration of the Salt Typhoon breach.
Confirmation from Other Telecom Providers
Lumen’s statement follows similar confirmations from other major U.S. telecommunications companies. Both AT&T and Verizon have reported securing their networks after experiencing breaches attributed to the same hacking group.
T-Mobile, also a target of Salt Typhoon, previously indicated last month that it had found no ongoing presence of hackers within its systems.
Limited Data Access
Both AT&T and Verizon acknowledged that a limited number of their high-profile customers had their communications compromised.
U.S. government officials stated last week that the total number of individuals targeted was “less than 100.”
The majority of those targeted were high-ranking U.S. government officials and politicians located in Washington, D.C.
This suggests a focused campaign aimed at gathering intelligence from key figures within the U.S. government.
