Delta SkyMiles and Uber Announce Partnership

Delta SkyMiles members located in the United States are now able to accumulate points through utilizing Uber rides or Uber Eats delivery services. This capability stems from a newly established, exclusive collaboration between the two organizations.

This partnership with Delta is strategically intended to strengthen Uber’s connection to air travel. Airport transportation has consistently represented a highly profitable sector for the ride-hailing service. Uber also revealed intentions on Tuesday to broaden the availability of its cost-effective Airport Shuttle service to Atlanta, following successful implementations in New York City.

Navigating Market Conditions

Uber’s focus on airport services occurs during a period characterized by market instability, diminished consumer spending, and heightened border controls. These factors are contributing to a reduction in travel expenditure among many Americans this year.

Increased uncertainty may drive customers to seek cost-saving strategies. Account linking for customers who pre-registered on the waitlist began Tuesday, with general access available starting Thursday.

Earning Miles with Uber

Once accounts are linked, Uber users who are also Delta SkyMiles members can earn miles as follows:

• Uber Eats: 1 mile is awarded for every dollar spent on orders exceeding $40.
• Airport Rides: 1 mile per dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports.
• Premium Rides: 2 miles are earned for each dollar spent on Uber Comfort or Uber Black services.
• Uber Reserve: 3 miles per dollar spent on pre-booked Uber rides.

While combining miles from airport ride reservations isn't permitted, an Uber representative clarified that customers will receive SkyMiles based on whichever option provides the greater reward.

Integrated Services

Beyond mile accumulation, Uber and Delta are implementing further integration. Passengers purchasing flights through the Fly Delta app will have the option to simultaneously book an Uber Reserve ride for airport transportation.

Furthermore, later in the year, SkyMiles members accessing in-flight WiFi will receive a promotional offer for a 30% discount on an Uber ride upon landing.
