Twitter Ticketed Spaces: Paid Audio Rooms Now Available on iOS

Twitter Launches Ticketed Spaces for Select Hosts

Twitter has revealed that a limited number of Spaces hosts, utilizing its live audio platform, are now authorized to offer access through Ticketed Spaces. The initial application process for this feature began in June.

Eligibility requirements included being over the age of 18, having hosted a minimum of three Spaces within the preceding 30 days, and possessing at least 1,000 followers.

Rollout and Availability

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch that the company is actively collaborating with existing Spaces hosts to implement Ticketed Spaces.

The exact number of hosts currently granted access to this functionality remains undisclosed, as does a timeline for broader availability. Currently, ticket purchases for Spaces are exclusively available to users on iOS devices.

Revenue Sharing and Fees

Previously, Twitter announced a 3% commission on creators’ revenue generated from Ticketed Spaces. However, due to the current iOS-only availability, Apple’s standard 30% in-app purchase fee applies.

This means creators will receive 67% of each ticket sale. A tiered commission structure is also in place; once a creator’s cumulative earnings across Twitter – encompassing both Ticketed Spaces and Super Follows – surpass $50,000, Twitter’s commission will increase to 20%.

Competitive Advantage

The introduction of Ticketed Spaces sets Twitter apart from its competitors in the live audio landscape. While platforms like Clubhouse and Instagram allow for listener contributions through tips or badges, neither currently supports pre-event ticket sales.

This new feature provides hosts with a direct monetization pathway, potentially fostering a more sustainable ecosystem for live audio content on the platform.
