twitter locks trump out of his account for at least 12 hours

Update: As of Thursday afternoon, Twitter has reinstated Donald Trump’s access to his account.
In a departure from its established policies, Twitter has temporarily suspended the President of the United States’ Twitter account and required the deletion of three posts it deemed objectionable.
“Due to the extraordinary and continuing unrest in Washington, D.C., we have mandated the removal of three @realDonaldTrump Tweets published earlier today because of repeated and serious breaches of our Civic Integrity policy,” the platform stated.
Consequently, President Trump will be unable to post on his account for a minimum of 12 hours. The suspension will continue beyond this timeframe if the tweets are not removed, according to the site. Twitter further indicated that any subsequent violations of its rules, “will lead to the permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.”
The company had previously maintained that posts from a high-profile figure such as President Trump were a matter of public interest, despite potentially contravening its stated terms of service. Twitter’s established guidelines state that
The removed posts encompassed content that had been previously identified by the service “due to a potential for inciting violence,” following a breach of the U.S. Capitol:

These posts included a pre-recorded video in which the President urged those involved in the Capitol breach to “go home,” while also stating, “We love you; you’re very special.” Following this action, Twitter communicated to TechCrunch, “Regarding the situation unfolding in Washington, DC, Twitter’s Trust & Safety teams are dedicated to safeguarding the public conversation on our service and will take measures against any content that breaches the Twitter Rules. To be clear: Expressions of violence and incitements to violence are unacceptable on Twitter, and we will enforce our policies accordingly.”
Demands for the removal of the President’s Twitter account grew significantly throughout the day’s events. It had been generally expected that President Trump would be permitted to continue using Twitter until the end of his term, but the events at the Capitol—and his subsequent posts—seem to have prompted the platform to expedite these disciplinary measures.
This action does not suggest a favorable outcome for President Trump’s account once he leaves office. The @Potus account remains under White House control until the transition of power on January 20.
