Twitter Enhancements: Preventing Disappearing Tweets and Full-Size Image Previews

Twitter is implementing an update to its iOS application designed to eliminate the issue of tweets vanishing while users are actively reading them. This adjustment follows a recent modification to the platform’s web interface, which removed the automatic timeline refresh feature.

The company has recognized that previously, the automatic refreshing of timelines often resulted in tweets disappearing from view during user reading, leading to a disruptive user experience.

Addressing the Disappearing Tweet Issue

“Updates have been deployed on iOS to ensure tweets remain visible during reading. When a user pauses scrolling to view a tweet, it will now remain in place!,” Twitter communicated via a post on its platform.

Initial announcements regarding these updates were made in September, outlining the intention to prevent tweets from disappearing mid-read. These improvements have now been implemented across both the web and iOS versions of Twitter.

Work is currently underway to address the same issue on the Android platform, though a specific timeline for the release of these updates remains uncertain.

Full-Size Image Previews

Furthermore, Twitter has announced the discontinuation of automatic image cropping in web previews. This change mirrors a similar update rolled out earlier this year for mobile users, providing full-size image previews.

On the web version of Twitter, images will now be displayed in their entirety, without any cropping. This ensures that images appear as they were originally captured, eliminating guesswork regarding their presentation in the timeline.

The company initially tested this change in March with a limited group of iOS and Android users.

Ongoing Platform Improvements

These adjustments are part of a broader effort by Twitter to improve its platform and enhance user accessibility. Recent enhancements include the ability to share direct links to Twitter Spaces, allowing users to join live audio sessions via the web without requiring a login.

Additionally, the in-app tipping feature has been extended to all Android users aged 18 and above.
