Tweetbot 6 Released: New Subscription Pricing Details

Tapbots, the creators of Tweetbot, has launched a significant update for both iPhone and iPad devices. Tweetbot 6 is currently available for download within the App Store. While the update doesn’t introduce substantial alterations to the visual appearance, several key improvements have been implemented internally.
Notably, Tweetbot 6 now utilizes Twitter’s API v2. An API serves as a connection point, enabling different applications and services to communicate with one another. In this instance, Tweetbot leverages Twitter’s API to interact with the Twitter platform.
The capabilities of third-party developers are inherently limited by the permissions granted by Twitter. For a considerable period, Twitter’s API has presented certain restrictions, particularly for developers aiming to construct a comprehensive Twitter client. However, API v2 introduces access to previously unavailable functionalities.
As an example, Tweetbot 6 is now capable of displaying polls directly within the timeline, a feature that was previously unsupported. Similarly, the application now showcases preview cards, allowing users to view linked content without navigating away from the app. Certain features, like stories, are not yet included.
Alongside these core changes, Tweetbot 6 includes several smaller refinements, such as new interface themes, the option to choose either Chrome or Firefox as the browser for opening links, and various design adjustments throughout the application.
A shift in the business model is also taking place. Instead of a one-time purchase price, the app is now available as a free download with limited functionality—for example, posting tweets is restricted. Users can then subscribe to unlock the full range of features for $0.99 monthly or $5.99 annually.
This adjustment is intended to secure the app’s long-term viability. Tapbots indicates that Tweetbot 6 is presently in an early access phase, with plans to incorporate additional features in the future.
For those currently using Tweetbot 5, the application continues to function as expected and can be re-downloaded from the ‘Purchased’ section of the App Store.
