Trump Calls for Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger to Resign

Trump Calls for Intel CEO’s Resignation Amidst China Concerns
Escalating geopolitical tensions with China have prompted U.S. President Donald Trump to publicly demand the resignation of Intel’s Chief Executive Officer, Lip-Bu Tan.
Accusations of Conflict of Interest
President Trump asserted that Tan is facing a significant conflict of interest, issuing a direct call for his immediate removal from the position. He stated on his Truth Social platform, “The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem!”
However, the former President did not provide any supporting documentation or specific details to substantiate his claims regarding these alleged conflicts.
Intel’s Response
Intel responded with a statement emphasizing its dedication to U.S. national and economic security. The company highlighted its substantial investments that align with the “America First” agenda.
“Intel, the Board of Directors, and Lip-Bu Tan are deeply committed to advancing U.S. national and economic security interests,” the statement read. “Intel has been manufacturing in America for 56 years.”
The company further detailed its ongoing investments in domestic semiconductor research and development, as well as manufacturing, including a new facility in Arizona.
Senator Cotton’s Inquiry
This call for resignation follows a letter sent on Wednesday by Republican Senator Tom Cotton to Intel’s board of directors. The letter questioned Tan’s connections to China and his investments within the country.
Senator Cotton also expressed concerns regarding Tan’s previous leadership role at Cadence Design Systems, specifically citing a Chinese military university as a customer.
Tan’s Focus on Restructuring Intel
Lip-Bu Tan assumed the role of CEO in March and has since prioritized improving operational efficiency at Intel. The company has been facing increasing competition from rivals such as Nvidia and AMD in the rapidly evolving AI chip market.
As part of this restructuring, Tan has implemented workforce reductions, halted plans for new manufacturing sites, and initiated the sale of non-essential business units. The goal is to refocus Intel as an engineering-driven organization.
The CHIPS Act and Intel’s Investments
Intel has been a key beneficiary of the Biden administration’s CHIPS Act, securing approximately $8 billion in funding. These funds are intended to support the establishment of manufacturing and packaging projects across several states, including Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon.
These investments are crucial for bolstering domestic semiconductor production and reducing reliance on foreign sources.
