Time Clock MTS - Billable Time Tracking

Streamlining Time Management for Small Businesses and Freelancers
For those who are self-employed or run a small enterprise with a limited number of staff, accurately monitoring work hours can present challenges.
While numerous task management tools exist, many are basic in functionality and designed for casual use.
These simpler solutions frequently lack detailed time recording capabilities and typically support tracking for only a single user at any given time.
Introducing Time Clock MTS
Time Clock MTS is a specialized time tracking solution developed with businesses in mind, offering a more comprehensive feature set.
Although larger organizations will incur costs following the completion of a 30-day trial period, the software remains freely accessible for individual users.
Furthermore, businesses requiring time tracking for up to three employees can utilize Time Clock MTS without charge on a permanent basis.
This makes it an ideal solution for small teams and independent professionals seeking a robust and cost-effective time management system.
Establishing Employee Records
Upon initial launch of Time Clock MTS, the establishment of an administrative account is necessary. This administrator account holds the responsibility for the creation and upkeep of all employee records within the Time Clock MTS database.
While safeguarding this account is crucial in larger organizations, it generally presents fewer concerns for smaller operations. Nevertheless, the program mandates the setup of an admin account during its first-time initialization.
Following this initial setup, it’s important to input your own details into the system. The admin account isn't automatically logged in, so navigate to File and select Log In As Administrator.
Now, select Employee Maintenance and then choose Add An Employee. The level of detail required for this section is contingent upon your intended use.
If you are self-employed and solely tracking your own work hours, a less comprehensive record is sufficient. However, when documenting information for employees, a more detailed entry is essential.
Initially, the Employee Information section will be displayed. Additional sections, including Payroll, Contact, and Tax information, are also available.
The headings of these sections clearly indicate the type of data each is designed to manage.
Monitoring Work Hours
After at least one employee profile has been created, recording start and end times is achieved by choosing the relevant employee record and then selecting Clock In or Clock Out.

However, if detailed tracking of time dedicated to particular tasks is required, Time Clock MTS facilitates this through the use of Job Codes.
Navigate to the Tools menu and select Options. This action will open a settings interface containing several sections. Scroll down to locate the Job Tracking section and click to access it. Then, click the icon resembling a blank page to establish a new code.
You will then be prompted to assign a unique code and a descriptive name to the job.

Return to Employee Maintenance and choose Edit Selected Employee. A job tracking drop-down menu will become visible. Select either 'optional' – allowing job tracking as a choice – or 'compulsory' – requiring job tracking with each clock-in.
Enabling job tracking necessitates entering the corresponding job code during the clock-in process.
To review the time invested by yourself or any employee on specific tasks, a Payroll Report can be generated. This is done by selecting the employee record and then clicking View Employee Information within the primary interface.
A drop-down menu will then reveal the option to generate a payroll report. A new window will appear, featuring a Report Options section with a drop-down menu. Select Job Time Report from this menu.
This action will display the total time allocated to each specific job code that was entered.
Final Thoughts
Time Clock MTS represents a robust solution for monitoring work hours, both your own and those of your team, with a focus on professional application. The software boasts a comprehensive suite of features, notably the capacity to generate payroll reports for export to Excel spreadsheets.
In contrast to more streamlined, mobile-centric alternatives like Toggl, Time Clock MTS can present a less intuitive user experience. Nevertheless, a significant advantage of Time Clock MTS lies in its free accessibility to its complete feature set, provided the number of tracked employee records remains at three or fewer.
Other time tracking services, such as Toggl, typically necessitate a paid subscription to unlock their full functionality.

Considerations for Selection
- Feature Depth: Time Clock MTS offers extensive options for detailed time management.
- Cost: The free tier is generous, accommodating up to three employees.
- Usability: Compared to mobile apps, the interface may feel less modern.
Ultimately, the ideal time tracking software depends on individual needs and priorities.
