Hide Search Box & Task View Button on Windows 10 Taskbar

Customizing the Windows 10 Taskbar: Hiding Search and Task View
Windows 10 introduced enhancements to the taskbar, including direct search functionality and the "Task View" button. These additions allow users to initiate searches, or utilize Cortana, without opening the Start menu, and to quickly access all open windows.
However, these features occupy space on the taskbar. If you prefer a cleaner appearance, it's possible to conceal these elements.
Understanding Cortana and Windows Search
Cortana is a comprehensive digital assistant extending beyond basic Windows Search. It facilitates the discovery of information both on and off your computer.
Its capabilities include providing factual data, locating places, and delivering relevant information. Furthermore, Cortana can manage reminders, monitor shipments, compose and send communications, and organize your schedule.
While Cortana incorporates standard search capabilities, it can be disabled via the Windows Registry to revert to the traditional Windows Search experience. Despite this, the search box will remain visible on the taskbar.
Hiding the Search Box and Task View Button
To reclaim taskbar space, the search box can be hidden. Similarly, the Task View button, which grants access to Windows 10’s virtual desktop functionality, can also be removed from view.
This customization allows for a more streamlined taskbar experience, tailored to individual user preferences.

Removing the Search/Cortana Box from the Taskbar
The Search or Cortana box can be hidden from view by performing a simple right-click action. Locate an unoccupied area on the Taskbar and right-click. From the context menu that appears, select “Cortana” or “Search,” then choose “Hidden.”

Following this step will cause the box to be removed from the Taskbar interface.

Alternatively, if you wish to retain access to the Search functionality without the full box constantly displayed, a smaller icon can be shown. This allows for quick access when needed, while minimizing Taskbar clutter.
Displaying Only the Search Icon
To display only the icon, right-click on an empty portion of the Taskbar once more. Select “Cortana” (or “Search”) from the menu, and then choose “Show Cortana icon” or “Show search icon.”

The icon will then become visible on the Taskbar, replacing the previously displayed box. Clicking this icon will initiate a search.

This provides a convenient way to access search capabilities without dedicating permanent space to the larger Search/Cortana box.
Removing the Task View Button from the Windows 10 Taskbar
Windows 10 introduced Task View, a functionality enabling the creation of virtual desktops. This allows users to organize their currently running applications into distinct categories. It proves particularly beneficial when managing numerous open programs simultaneously.
The Task View button is readily accessible on the Taskbar, positioned to the right of the Search/Cortana field.
Disabling the Task View Button
If virtual desktops are not utilized, the Task View button can be removed from the Taskbar to declutter the interface. This is achieved by right-clicking on an unoccupied section of the Taskbar.
From the context menu that appears, select the "Show Task View Button" option. Toggling this option will hide or reveal the button.
Following this action, both the Search box and the Task View button will be removed from the Taskbar, providing a cleaner visual experience.

It’s important to understand that concealing the Search/Cortana box doesn’t eliminate the feature entirely. Access to search functionality and Cortana remains available by simply clicking the Start button and initiating a search query.
Alternatively, the free application Classic Shell can be installed to restore a more traditional Windows 7-style Start menu, complete with an integrated Search box.
