Toyota to Build Next-Gen Cars with NVIDIA Supercomputers

Toyota Integrates Nvidia Technology for Next-Generation Automated Driving
During CES 2025, Toyota revealed that upcoming vehicle models will incorporate automated driving functionalities. These capabilities will be facilitated by Nvidia’s Drive AGX Orin supercomputer and the safety-centric DriveOS operating system.
Nvidia DriveOS: A Foundation for Autonomous Systems
DriveOS serves as the operating system for Nvidia’s autonomous vehicle platform. It is designed to deliver secure, real-time AI processing and seamless integration of both advanced driving and in-cabin features.
Further details regarding Toyota’s deployment strategies for vehicles equipped with automated driving are currently being sought from the automaker by TechCrunch.
Nvidia’s Comprehensive Self-Driving Toolkit
The Drive AGX in-vehicle supercomputer, responsible for processing real-time sensor information, represents one component of Nvidia’s complete self-driving solution.
This toolkit is comprised of three key elements:
- Nvidia DGX: Used for training artificial intelligence models and software stacks.
- Nvidia Omniverse: A platform for testing autonomous vehicle software and generating synthetic data through simulation.
- Nvidia Drive AGX: The in-vehicle supercomputer.
A Long-Standing Partnership
Toyota has been utilizing Nvidia’s cloud-based computing systems for several years. As early as 2019, the Toyota Research Institute leveraged Nvidia’s technology to develop, train, and validate its autonomous vehicle technologies.
Initial collaborative plans between the two companies, outlining the integration of Nvidia supercomputers into future Toyota vehicles for autonomous driving, were established in 2017.
“Toyota exemplifies our cloud-to-car strategy,” stated Ali Kani, Vice President of Automotive at Nvidia, during a press conference. “Our existing cloud partnership with Toyota is now expanding to include in-vehicle collaboration.”
Expanding Ecosystem: Aurora and Continental
Toyota is not the sole adopter of Nvidia’s technology. At CES 2025, Aurora Innovation, an autonomous vehicle technology company, and Continental, an automotive supplier, announced a strategic partnership.
This collaboration aims to deploy driverless trucks on a large scale, powered by the Nvidia Drive Thor system-on-a-chip.
Future Growth for Nvidia’s Automotive Business
Nvidia anticipates substantial growth within its automotive sector, projecting revenues of approximately $5 billion in fiscal year 2026. This expectation is driven by its comprehensive range of platforms, encompassing training, simulation, and in-vehicle computing.
