Tinder Introduces "Plus One" Feature for Wedding Season

Tinder revealed on Thursday the launch of a novel functionality designed to assist users in locating a date for the approaching wedding season. Beginning today, individuals can utilize the “Plus One” option within the application to indicate either their desire for a wedding date or their willingness to accompany someone as a plus one.

Feature Access and Functionality

This new capability is integrated into Tinder’s Explore section, which was introduced last month. The Explore section provides users with diverse methods for discovering potential matches based on shared interests and other criteria.

According to Kyle Miller, Vice President of Product Innovation at Tinder, the company recognized a significant demand among its user base for a dedicated way to find a wedding companion. He stated in a blog post that they are pleased to now offer this solution directly within the Tinder platform.

Wedding Grant Giveaway

Tinder is collaborating with WeddingWire, a comprehensive wedding planning resource, to alleviate the financial burden of wedding attendance for single guests. This partnership will involve a new Wedding Grant giveaway.

Starting today, the initial 100 qualifying Tinder users who opt into the Plus One feature will receive a grant of $460. This funding is intended to help offset expenses related to attending weddings, including travel, gifts, and lodging. The $460 amount was selected because WeddingWire’s research indicates that guests typically spend approximately this sum to attend a wedding.

Increased Demand and Feature Benefits

Tinder reports a growing anticipation for wedding season among its users. Mentions of “plus one” within user bios have risen by 45% since the start of the year. This new feature allows Tinder users to specifically search for a wedding date, streamlining the process and avoiding interactions with individuals who are not interested in attending weddings.

Recent Feature Rollouts

This launch is part of a broader effort by Tinder to enhance user engagement and provide more options for connecting with potential dates. The Explore section, for example, includes event listings and alternative methods for discovering matches based on interests.

Furthermore, it facilitates quick conversations between users prior to establishing a match. Recently, Tinder also partnered with Lyft to enable users to cover the cost of their date’s transportation.

Focus on Safety

Beyond social features, Tinder is also prioritizing user safety. In August, the company announced plans to make voluntary ID verification available globally. Additionally, in June, a feature was released allowing users to upload their phone contacts and block unwanted individuals from appearing on the app.
