Tim Cook, Tim Sweeney Eyed as Witnesses in Apple vs. Epic Trial

Apple and Epic’s Trial: Key Witnesses Revealed

A recently submitted witness list for the forthcoming trial between Apple and Epic Games showcases a gathering of high-ranking officials from both organizations.

This protracted legal dispute has the potential to significantly reshape the landscape of mobile application payments.

The Origin of the Dispute

The conflict arose when Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, was removed from the App Store in August of the previous year.

This removal followed Epic’s implementation of an in-game payment system intended to circumvent Apple’s standard payment processing – and associated fees.

Allegations and Counterarguments

Epic Games has leveled accusations of monopolistic practices against Apple concerning mobile payments.

Conversely, Apple maintains that Epic Games violated the terms of the App Store agreement in an effort to boost its own profitability.

Key Figures Set to Testify

The document, filed by Apple, details a roster of prominent executives from each company.

Representing Apple will be CEO Tim Cook, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering Craig Federighi, and Apple Fellow Phil Schiller.

On Epic’s side, Tim Sweeney and Vice President Mark Rein are slated to appear.

Notably, executives from Microsoft, Facebook, and Nvidia have also been included as potential witnesses.

Apple’s Statement

In a statement to TechCrunch, Apple acknowledged the witness list.

Trial Date

The trial is scheduled to begin on May 3rd.

Requests for further comment have been directed to Epic Games.
