TikTok Updates: Giphy, HD Videos, & New Features

TikTok Announces Updates to Camera and Editing Tools

Alongside announcements regarding modifications to its For You feed, TikTok has revealed a series of enhancements to its camera and editing functionalities today. These updates encompass new capabilities for the widely-used Green Screen effect, alongside improvements to video quality and sound effects.

Green Screen Effect Gains GIF Support

A significant update centers around the Green Screen effect, which has been a popular feature on the platform since its introduction in 2019. This tool, enabling creators to superimpose themselves onto different visual backgrounds, now incorporates support for animated GIFs.

TikTok has collaborated with GIPHY – a company owned by Meta – to facilitate this integration. Users can now choose from a vast library of GIFs to serve as their video backgrounds. This allows for diverse content creation possibilities, such as reaction videos utilizing GIFs or showcasing popular internet memes.

Enhanced Video Quality with 1080p HD Uploads

As TikTok attracts a growing number of professional content creators, the platform is introducing tools tailored to their needs. A recent example is the testing of desktop livestreaming software. Now, users will have the option to upload videos in 1080p HD resolution.

This feature will initially be available in “select countries” and can be activated via a toggle labeled “Upload HD” found within the “More Options” section on the Publishing page.

New Visual Enhancement Tool

TikTok is also introducing a new Visual Enhancement button designed to automatically optimize video quality. This feature will improve exposure, correct color imbalances, and enhance videos filmed in low-light conditions.

The tool aims to provide a simple, one-tap solution for users to improve the visual appeal of their content without requiring extensive video editing expertise. Users can access the “Enhance” button on the right-side panel after recording or uploading a video. The effect can be easily reversed with a second tap.

Expanded Audio Effects

Furthermore, TikTok is expanding its library of musical and audio effects. New features allow users to transform voices and sounds into animal noises or the tones of various musical instruments, including the flute, suona, and even a cat.

These new audio effects are accessible on the Editing page by selecting the “Voice Effects” button located on the right panel.

These updates demonstrate TikTok’s commitment to providing creators with a comprehensive suite of tools for engaging and dynamic content creation.
