A New Atari Handheld: Gamestation Go

While CES isn't traditionally known as a gaming-focused event, several interesting products are often unveiled. This year, the Gamestation Go, a collaboration between Atari and My Arcade, has captured attention.

Key Features and Design

The handheld device boasts a 7-inch display and is pre-loaded with over 200 classic titles spanning various Atari generations.

However, simply being a portable emulator isn't enough to stand out in today’s market saturated with smartphone games. The official Atari endorsement, while positive, isn’t the primary draw.

The Gamestation Go distinguishes itself through its meticulous attention to detail, aiming to recreate the authentic Atari experience.

Controller Variety

The inclusion of a number pad on the side may evoke memories of the N-Gage, but it demonstrates the device’s commitment to faithfully representing different vintage Atari experiences.

This keypad was, in fact, crucial for gameplay in several Atari 2600 titles.

Above the keypad are four action buttons. To the left of the screen, you’ll find a dial, a D-pad, and a trackball for diverse control schemes.

L and R buttons are positioned on the top of the display, providing functionality for games like the Atari-themed Balls of Steel pinball port.

Target Audience and Functionality

The market for a dedicated Atari handheld is relatively specific. Emulators have already made a vast library of classic games widely accessible.

Nevertheless, the ability to play these titles with controller configurations that closely mimic the originals will undoubtedly appeal to enthusiasts.

Additional Features

A built-in lighting system automatically illuminates the appropriate controller set for the game being played.

The handheld also includes an HDMI output port, allowing users to connect it to a TV for a larger-screen gaming experience, similar to the Nintendo Switch.

Release Date and Pricing

The Atari Gamestation Go is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2025, with a price point of $149.
