General Motors unveiled a Cadillac-exclusive electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) drone concept on Tuesday, envisioned – should it move beyond the design phase – to provide a private and opulent airborne travel experience.
This single-occupant eVTOL was presented alongside an autonomous vehicle during GM’s primary address at the all-digital 2021 CES technology exhibition, marking the company’s initial exploration into the realm of aerial transportation. It’s important to note that this remains a conceptual design, suggesting its transition to a production model is not currently planned. Nevertheless, such concepts often indicate a company’s future direction regarding design and product development. GM has already demonstrated a commitment to investing in both electric and self-driving vehicle technologies.
“We are anticipating a future where developments in electric and autonomous systems enable personal flight,” stated Michael Simcoe, GM’s head of global design, during the presentation. “This concept is created with the understanding that, at times, speed and ease of travel are paramount.”

Simcoe indicated that further concepts are in development, including a “premium two-person vehicle intended for you and a loved one to unwind, recharge, and savor a comprehensive sensory experience tailored for more personal trips.
As Simcoe clarified, the overall purpose of these designs is to illustrate how Cadillac’s signature luxury and autonomous technology could manifest in the “foreseeable future.
Naturally, these concepts also serve to emphasize GM’s dedication to the evolution of transportation, a future the company believes will be defined by electric power, automated driving capabilities, and integrated vehicle services.
