Substack Acquires People & Company Team - Expanding Community Focus

Substack Acquires Community Building Startup People & Company
Substack, a prominent platform for independent publishing, has announced the acquisition of People & Company, a Brooklyn-based consultancy specializing in community development.
Strengthening Community Efforts
People & Company has a proven track record of assisting organizations in fostering robust communities. Their team will now focus on enhancing community initiatives for writers utilizing the Substack platform.
According to a recent blog post by Substack co-founder Hamish McKenzie, the company had previously engaged People & Co. for guidance on their fellowship and mentorship programs.
Expanding Writer Support
The newly integrated team will contribute to a diverse range of projects. These include scaling programs offering writers assistance with legal support and health insurance.
Furthermore, they will facilitate community-driven initiatives such as workshops and meetups. These events are designed to gather collective insights and knowledge from Substack’s writer network.
McKenzie stated, “These individuals represent the highest caliber of expertise in their field, and their services are now available not only to Substack but also to our writers.”
Notable Past Clients
People & Company’s client portfolio extends beyond Substack. They have previously collaborated with well-known brands including Porsche AG, Nike, and Surfrider.
Substack’s Continued Growth
This acquisition underscores Substack’s ongoing expansion. The company has been actively forging new partnerships and securing funding to attract a larger subscriber base.
In late March, Substack announced a $65 million funding round, valuing the company at approximately $650 million, as reported by Axios.
The company is dedicated to providing resources and support to its growing network of independent writers.
