Windows 7 Easter Egg: XP Alt-Tab Prompt - Stupid Geek Tricks

A Curious Windows 7 Anomaly: Reverting to the Classic Alt-Tab
This is a rather unusual and ultimately inconsequential technique, offering no practical benefit, yet remains an interesting discovery. It involves a peculiarity within Windows 7 that can unexpectedly activate the older, XP-style Alt-Tab application switcher.
The standard Alt-Tab functionality in Windows 7 represents a significant enhancement over its predecessor. It features a larger, more visually appealing, and transparent interface.
How to Activate the XP-Style Alt-Tab
To initiate this throwback, follow these specific steps:
- Initially, maintain a hold on either the Left or Right Alt key.
- Briefly press and release the other Alt key.
- Continue holding the first Alt key while simultaneously pressing the Tab key.
Upon completion of these actions, the familiar, older XP-style Alt-Tab interface will appear.
This seemingly trivial function is, admittedly, of limited utility.
It's worth mentioning that this discovery was originally brought to light by Alexander from NTWind. He is also the creator of VistaSwitcher, a highly regarded Alt-Tab replacement application that offers substantial improvements.
NTWind's VistaSwitcher provides a genuinely useful alternative to the default Windows Alt-Tab behavior.
