Storz & Bickel Announces Updates to the Mighty Vaporizer Line

Storz & Bickel has released an updated version of its popular Mighty vaporizer. Initially launched in October 2014, the original quickly gained a dedicated following, despite a somewhat bulky design and a premium price point. Consumers consistently cite the exceptional vapor quality, efficient airflow, and its medical device certification as key reasons for their purchase.

Introducing the Mighty+

The new iteration, designated the Mighty+, incorporates several enhancements. These include a ceramic-coated heating chamber, USB-C connectivity for charging, a reduced startup time of 60 seconds, and a novel mode for rapid temperature adjustments. Notably, the device now features integrated stabilizing feet, allowing it to stand upright on a flat surface.

The Mighty+ is offered at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $399 and will be available for purchase starting September 23.

Further Product Updates

Beyond the Mighty+, the company has also refreshed two other products within its portfolio. The Volcano vaporizer is now offered with a matte black finish. Additionally, the Crafty+ model receives a ceramic filling chamber and USB-C charging, shortening charge times by 25 minutes.

UL Certification: A First for Dry Herb Vaporizers

Storz & Bickel has successfully obtained UL certification for the Mighty+, a significant achievement. UL (Underwriters Laboratories) is a U.S.-based, globally recognized safety certification organization. The Mighty+ now complies with UL8139 standards, making it the first dry herb vaporizer to officially bear the UL logo.

For Storz & Bickel, this certification holds considerable importance. The company has long distinguished itself through TUV certification, which designates the Mighty and Volcano as medical devices. The UL certification validates that the Mighty+’s components meet stringent safety standards related to electrical, heating, battery, and charging systems.

Industry Trend Towards Enhanced Safety

Andy Lytwynec, VP of Global Vape Business at Canopy Growth, commented on the UL certification, stating it presented a clear objective for the company. He emphasized the extensive collaboration required and the recent achievement of this certification.

Lytwynec further explained that Storz & Bickel anticipates a growing trend among consumers to more carefully evaluate vaporizer options. He believes the UL certification will provide owners with increased confidence in the device’s safety and reliability, mitigating concerns about potential malfunctions.

Incremental Improvements Based on User Feedback

The enhancements incorporated into the Mighty+ are described as incremental updates, directly informed by customer feedback. The device now utilizes USB-C charging, capable of achieving an 80% charge within 40 minutes. A 60-second heat-up time is also provided, and activating the temperature button three times engages a “Superbooster” mode for a rapid 59-degree temperature increase.

The filling chamber is now coated with ceramic, which is expected to simplify oven maintenance.

Remaining Features and Considerations

Despite the updates, the bright LED display from the original Mighty remains. Some users have previously expressed concern about the screen’s brightness in dark environments and its susceptibility to UV-induced dimming. The battery system also appears to be unchanged from the previous model.

The overall form factor remains consistent, with the addition of the stabilizing feet. The original Mighty lacked the ability to stand independently, making bowl filling more difficult without a separate stand. The new feet address this issue.

Performance Evaluation Pending

The impact of these changes on overall performance remains to be seen. A comprehensive evaluation will be possible upon receiving a device for testing next week.

Material Choices and Cooling Chamber Design

Regarding the use of plastic in the top-mounted cooling chamber, Lytwynec addressed concerns about competitors utilizing glass or ceramic for improved flavor. He noted that the Mighty+ employs a new plastic polymer, and Storz & Bickel prioritizes materials that enable their devices to meet medical device certification requirements. The company acknowledges the existence of third-party accessories but maintains that the current cooling chamber design provides optimal benefits to consumers.

New Versions of Crafty+ and Volcano

Alongside the Mighty+, a new version of the Crafty+, the company’s smaller dry herb vaporizer, has been unveiled. This model incorporates many of the improvements found in the Mighty+. A refreshed version of the original Volcano desktop vaporizer is also available, featuring a scratch-resistant matte black finish and a retail price of $699, starting September 9.
