Stellantis and Pony.ai Partner for Robotaxi Development in Europe

Stellantis and Pony.ai Partner to Develop Robotaxis for Europe
Stellantis, a leading global automaker, and Pony.ai, a prominent Chinese autonomous vehicle firm, have entered into a preliminary agreement focused on the development of robotaxis intended for use within Europe.
This collaborative effort will involve the integration of Pony.ai’s autonomous driving software suite with Stellantis’ electric vehicle platform, specifically designed for medium-size vans. The platform incorporates sophisticated sensor technology crucial for supporting fully autonomous operation.
Initial Deployment and Testing
The initial phase of the project will center around test vehicles utilizing the Peugeot e-Traveller model. Testing is scheduled to commence in Luxembourg, which serves as Pony.ai’s European base of operations, within the next few months.
Following successful testing, a broader rollout of these autonomous vehicles is anticipated across various European cities, beginning in 2026.
Strategic Partnerships and Expansion
This agreement builds upon Pony.ai’s recent partnership announcement with Uber, aimed at expanding autonomous vehicle deployment into international territories, including Europe and the Middle East.
Furthermore, the company secured an autonomous vehicle testing license from Luxembourg authorities in April, facilitating its European expansion plans.
Pony.ai’s Global Ambitions
As Pony.ai seeks to broaden its operational footprint beyond its established presence in China, it is actively pursuing increased market share in Europe.
In addition to its expansion efforts, the company is also preparing for a second initial public offering (IPO). Currently listed on the Nasdaq, Pony.ai is also working towards a secondary listing on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.
The company’s dual-listing strategy reflects its ambition to access a wider range of investors and strengthen its financial position for continued growth.
