StackPulse Raises $28M to Revolutionize Developer Outage Management

System disruptions can lead to significant challenges as teams work to diagnose the issue and implement a solution. StackPulse, a recently launched startup focused on assisting developers in managing these critical events more effectively, has officially revealed its existence alongside a $28 million funding announcement.
This funding consists of a prior, undisclosed $8 million seed round and a subsequent $20 million Series A investment. GGV Capital spearheaded the Series A round, while Bessemer Venture Partners led the seed funding and also contributed to the Series A. Glenn Solomon of GGV and Amit Karp of Bessemer will be joining the StackPulse board of directors.
Outages are a universal concern, impacting organizations of all sizes, including prominent companies like Amazon and Slack. Larger enterprises such as Google, Facebook, and Amazon utilize dedicated site reliability engineers and custom-built systems to address these situations. StackPulse aims to make similar capabilities accessible to a wider range of companies, particularly those relying on on-call developers for incident response.
According to company co-founder and CEO Ofer Smadari, the complexity of managing a crisis, with alerts originating from various platforms like Slack and PagerDuty, can hinder effective problem-solving. StackPulse is engineered to streamline the process of understanding the situation and restoring normal operations as quickly as possible.
Initially, the platform assists in determining the seriousness of the incident. It helps differentiate between false alarms, issues requiring immediate attention, and those suitable for deferred maintenance. If a problem demands immediate resolution, StackPulse can pinpoint the root cause and even facilitate automated remediation, as Smadari explained.
Following incident resolution, the platform also supports a post-incident analysis to determine the underlying causes by consolidating alert communications and incident data within a centralized system.
With its official launch, StackPulse has already secured initial customers and currently employs 35 individuals across locations in Portland, Oregon, and Tel Aviv. Smadari anticipates expanding the team to 100 employees by the end of the year, with a strong emphasis on building a diverse workforce to serve a diverse customer base. He believes that varied perspectives contribute to a superior product and that diversity is a key organizational priority, supported by a dedicated HR leader.
Glenn Solomon from GGV, who will be joining the board, highlighted the strength of the founding team and the significance of the problem they are addressing. “Their product vision resonated with us,” he stated.
Solomon emphasized the growing intolerance for downtime among customers and the critical role developers play in resolving these issues. “Reliability is paramount. Downtime negatively impacts businesses,” he noted, expressing confidence in StackPulse’s potential to deliver value.
