Squadcast Adds Video Podcast Recording - Enhance Your Show

The Evolving Landscape of Remote Video Podcasting

Despite significant investment and the widespread shift to remote recording spurred by the 2020 pandemic, the realm of remote video podcasting remains somewhat fragmented. One might anticipate a more standardized and comprehensive solution given the substantial financial resources being allocated to this sector.

Currently, many podcasters still utilize general-purpose teleconferencing applications to facilitate their recordings. It's worth noting that I, myself, have been leveraging Zoom for podcast production throughout the pandemic.

Competition and Emerging Solutions

Numerous companies are actively competing to establish themselves as the leading platform for remote podcasting, aiming to become the equivalent of Zoom or Skype specifically tailored for this purpose. Zencastr is a prominent contender in this space.

SquadCast represents another significant player, asserting a considerable market presence. However, even with its growth, the primary competition continues to come from more broadly focused video conferencing tools.

Addressing Recording Quality Concerns

While established platforms offer general reliability and widespread accessibility, they often fall short in terms of recording quality. SquadCast has differentiated itself by prioritizing superior audio and video fidelity, a crucial aspect often overlooked by general-purpose services.

This week, the company, based in Oakland, is expanding its capabilities to include video recording functionality.

Growth and Feature Demand

According to CEO Zachariah Moreno, “We experienced substantial growth prior to COVID-19, but the pandemic accelerated our progress, resulting in over 280% increases in both revenue and customer acquisition.”

He further stated, “Video recording has consistently been the most requested feature from our existing user base, as well as potential and former customers, making it a logical progression in our commitment to providing professional-grade virtual recording solutions.”

New Features and Pricing

The video recording feature is being rolled out to current subscribers starting this quarter. The beta version of the software captures video locally as individual files at 720p resolution.

Following the recording session, these files are converted into either MP4 or WebM formats.

SquadCast’s version 3.0 beta, featuring Studio Quality Video Recording, offers subscription plans ranging from $40 per month to $300 per month. Zencastr initiated its beta rollout of video recording capabilities earlier this summer.
