Spotify Discover Weekly Update: Major Changes After 10 Years

Spotify Updates Discover Weekly Playlist After a Decade
Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist, delivering personalized music suggestions each Monday, is receiving a significant update.
Celebrating ten years since its initial launch, Spotify Premium subscribers will now find new controls positioned at the playlist’s top.
Genre-Based Recommendation Control
These controls empower users to steer recommendations towards preferred musical genres. For example, someone primarily enjoying 80s rock, but with a growing interest in K-pop, can utilize these filters to refine the algorithmic curation.
The intention behind this feature is to provide listeners with greater agency over the types of new music featured in their Discover Weekly playlists.
Impressive Usage Statistics
Spotify reports that over 100 billion tracks have been streamed via Discover Weekly. Notably, 77% of listens on the playlist are dedicated to emerging artists.
Accessing the Updated Playlist
Spotify Premium users can access the enhanced Discover Weekly by visiting the “Made for You” hub and then selecting their Discover Weekly playlist.
Ensure the latest version of the Spotify application is installed to view the new genre controls.
Increased Listener Control Over Algorithms
Spotify has recently introduced features designed to give listeners more influence over their algorithmic recommendations.
The queue functionality has been revamped to display upcoming Spotify recommendations, allowing users to pre-select their preferred tracks.
Furthermore, listeners can now “snooze” songs they are currently disinclined to hear, temporarily removing them from rotation for 30 days without permanently hiding them.
