Ava DuVernay Signs Exclusive Podcast Deal with Spotify

Spotify is consistently securing collaborations with prominent figures to enhance its podcast offerings. Most recently, the company has partnered with filmmaker Ava DuVernay and her artistic organization, Array.

DuVernay is known for directing feature films such as “Selma” and “A Wrinkle in Time,” alongside her work on Netflix productions like “13th” and “When They See Us.” She has consistently voiced her support for streaming services as a means of broadening access to her narratives.

According to Spotify, this long-term collaboration will involve Array developing original scripted and unscripted content specifically for the audio streaming service. These projects will be produced in conjunction with Gimlet, the podcast network Spotify purchased in 2019.

“I am excited to broaden ARRAY’s storytelling capabilities into the world of podcasts, acknowledging the significant impact of voice and audio,” DuVernay stated. “The chance to collaborate with Lydia Polgreen, head of content at Gimlet, and her dedicated team led us to choose Spotify as the ideal platform for our audio stories, and we are eager to embark on this new creative venture.”

Spotify’s commitment to podcasting is further demonstrated by previous exclusive agreements with notable personalities including Barack and Michelle Obama, Joe Rogan, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
