Sony Enters the EV Market with Sony Mobility Inc.
During the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Sony’s Chairman, President, and CEO, Kenichiro Yoshida, unveiled a new prototype of the Vision S concept electric car.
Furthermore, the Sony Group announced the formation of a new division, Sony Mobility Inc., dedicated to the commercialization of its electric vehicles.
Showcasing the Vision S Lineup
The company presented its original Sony Vision-S sedan, initially showcased at CES the previous year.
Alongside the sedan, a new addition to the family was revealed: the Sony Vision-S SUV prototype.
A Focus on Safety, Adaptability, and Entertainment
“The positive reception to the Vision S spurred us to explore how we can leverage creativity and technology to redefine the transportation experience,” Yoshida stated before introducing the new SUV prototype.
“Our new Vision-S SUV is built upon the principles of safety, adaptability, and entertainment.
Prioritizing a comfortable mobility experience, safety remains paramount in its design.
Advanced Technology and Connectivity
A comprehensive network of 40 sensors, both internal and external, continuously monitor the vehicle to ensure safety.
The Vision-S boasts connectivity features that allow for continuous vehicle evolution and personalized cabin experiences for each user.
Utilizing 5G technology, the system provides high-speed, high-capacity, and low-latency connectivity between the vehicle and the cloud.
Expanding the Mobility Experience
“The Vision-S transforms mobility into an entertainment hub,” Yoshida explained, “offering immersive gaming and superior audio experiences.”
Through exploration of the Vision-S and collaboration with key partners, Sony has gained valuable insights into the evolving landscape of mobility.
Commercialization on the Horizon
Sony announced the establishment of Sony Mobility Inc. to expedite the process of exploring the commercial launch of its electric vehicles.
This signals a potential future where a Sony car may soon be available for purchase.
